19 deconstructed take home bags, remnant gold textiles, 1 window curtain, and beads
This piece was created with the intent of repurposing existing textiles that already had served their function. Jeff Ruby’s (and sister property Carlo & Johnnys) is a steakhouse franchise we frequent when visiting our son and daughter-in-law. Over the years we accumulated many take home bags for our leftovers. These bags are made from sturdy synthetic material with different logos printed on each side, have 2 long handles and strong edge seam stitching. I chose a swing coat design to accommodate as many of the logos as possible. The gold lining is made from a window curtain panel. The black lines separating the gold textiles are the repurposed seams, the cuffs are trimmed in the salvaged neckline of a thrift store top, and the beaded edges are utilized to highlight the curvature of the appliqués. The handles from the bags are used for edging and finishing, mostly on the inside lining areas. Almost entirely hand stitched, this coat can be used for a dramatic entrance!(and it has pockets of course).
